Sen. Mitch McConnell Tells Laura Ingraham He Rejects Sen. McCain’s Plea For Amnesty

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell visited Laura Ingraham‘s radio show today and let his thoughts known about Senator John McCain‘s plans to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

For one, McConnell told Ingraham, Congress won’t be touching the issue of border security :

Well I think it’s OK to talk about it, the question is, what are we going to do about it? I think it’s pretty clear now, on a bipartisan basis, that until the border is secure, by any objective standard, the rest of this will not be taken up in Congress.

And then there’s the whole money issue, of course. In response to Ingraham’s point that unemployment is high and the country is still contending with “economic malaise,” McConnell said:

It’s certainly not our agenda here in Congress. You’re referring to a conversation that Senator McCain had with the President but the agenda here in Congress is quite clear….We’re concentrating on reducing spending, reducing debt, and trying to get the private sector functioning again.
