Mizzou Professor Melissa Click Charged With Assault for Hassling Reporters
University of Missouri media professor Melissa Click has been charged with third-degree assault for her role in harassing reporters during coverage of the November campus protests, according to reporting from local ABC affiliate KMIZ.
In a widely-shared video, Click could be seen telling reporters they had to leave and trying to grab a photojournalist’s camera. “We need some muscle over here!” she shouted to students after the photojournalist refused to leave.
Click apologized for the incident after the clip went viral and resigned her professorship in the school of journalism. However, she still holds an associate professorship in the Department of Media, despite calls for her resignation from local Republican politicians.
If Click is found guilty of the misdemeanor assault, she could face a maximum of 15 days in jail, a $300 fine, or both.
