Mother of James Foley Pleas for ISIS to Spare Lives of Others
The mother of American journalist James Foley, who was beheaded by ISIS, posted a message to her Facebook page Tuesday calling on the Islamic terrorist group to spare the lives of others they have kidnapped.
“We have never been prouder of our son Jim,” reads the message by Diane Foley. “He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people.”
It continues: “We implore the kidnappers to spare the lives of the remaining hostages. Like Jim, they are innocents.”
A YouTube video surfaced Tuesday appearing to show an ISIS member beheading James. In the video, titled “Letter to America,” ISIS terrorists force Foley to read a letter urging Americans to rise up against his “real killer, the U.S. government.” James also says in the video that the U.S. airstrikes against ISIS “hammered the final nail into [his] coffin.”
President Barack Obama recently authorized military airstrikes against the terrorist group in parts of Iraq.
James had been missing since November 22, 2012 when he disappeared in Syria.
Diane’s full message:
We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people.
We implore the kidnappers to spare the lives of the remaining hostages. Like Jim, they are innocents. They have no control over American government policy in Iraq, Syria or anywhere in the world.
We thank Jim for all the joy he gave us. He was an extraordinary son, brother, journalist and person. Please respect our privacy in the days ahead as we mourn and cherish Jim.
