MSNBC’s Katy Tur Loses it Over Trump’s Bogus Military Pay Raise Claim: ‘I’d Be Pretty Pissed Off’ if I Were in a ‘War Zone’
From time-to-time, cable news anchors covering President Donald Trump occasionally to seem to have moments of pure exasperation chronicling the commander-in-chief’s many falsehoods. On Thursday, Katy Tur had one of those moments.
Filling in on MTP: Daily, Tur unleashed after a clip was played in which the president boasted about military pay raises — falsely claiming that it was the first pay bump in 10 years.
“God, he’s just full of it,” a visibly peeved Tur said. “None of that is true.”
Tur threw to a graphic which showed that military pay is only going up 2.6 percent in 2019, not 10 percent as Trump claimed. Military pay has also increased at least 1.0 percent each year of this decade — although the 2019 hike is the biggest since a 3.4 percent raise in 2010.
“Charitably speaking, could the president have just gotten his numbers confused?” Tur said. “Is he just that bad at numbers? Or is he deliberately lying?”
Later, Tur added: “If you told me I’m getting a 10 percent raise, and I’m only getting a 2.6 percent raise, I’d be pretty pissed off. Especially if I was in war zone risking my life every day. To hear that I’m getting a 10 percent raise from the commander-in-chief? The top of my echelon? I would be kinda bummed, a little angrier if I found out that’s not the case.”
