NABJ Head Fires Back at Cosby for ‘Black Media’ Neutrality Comments

Over the weekend, Bill Cosby, in the fact of mounting sexual assault allegations, took a few shots at the media. Cosby said he only expects the black media “to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism” when reporting on the various accusations. And now, the president of the National Association of Black Journalists has responded to the claim.

Speaking to TMZ, Bob Butler said the idea that white journalists are biased in their reporting of the sexual assault allegations against Cosby is untrue, and said the majority of reports about Cosby have been unbiased. Butler added that it is “wrong” for journalists to “go easier on a person with color.”

“This not a color issue, this is a journalism issue … black people happen to be reporters,” he said.

Cosby is not the only one taking shots at the media. Tuesday morning, Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough said the media should not cover any of the allegations until Cosby is charged with a crime. Cosby’s wife Camille also scolded the media, comparing the reporting to that of the now-defunct Rolling Stone story about a University of Virginia student who claimed she was gang raped.
