Near Majority Of Israeli Arabs Supported Military Action In Gaza

 

With a truce between the Israeli Defense Forces and Gaza-based Hamas holding, Israelis are looking back on the short-lived conflict on the Middle Eastern state’s southern border. A survey of Israelis showed that a vast majority of the nation’s residents supported military action in Gaza, including a plurality of Israel’s Arab population.

The poll released Thursday, conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute of Tel Aviv University, showed that 79 percent of Israelis supported action against militants in Gaza in November. 84 percent of Israeli Jews and 47 percent of Israel’s Arabs supported the action.

Support for the operation crossed the political spectrum in Israel as well; 74 percent of those who identify with the political left supported the action. 86 percent of centrists and 89 percent of the political right in Israel also supported the military operation in Gaza.

While 55 percent say that the government was correct to end strikes in Gaza, a large minority – 41 percent – believe that the government was wrong to cease combat operations when it did.
