New Documents Released in Darren Wilson Grand Jury Case

St. Louis prosecutor Robert McCulloch released hundreds of documents from the Michael Brown grand jury case Sunday, including an interview with Dorian Johnson, who testified that Ferguson officer Darren Wilson shot Brown in the back.

McCulloch said the documents had been accidentally withheld before and apologized for the oversight.

The new documents include an early interview with Johnson, who was with Brown when the dispute with Officer Wilson occurred. Johnson confirmed that there was an altercation at Wilson’s car, but testified Brown never reached for the officer’s weapon. He said he and Brown fled after Wilson fired his gun from the car, and that WIlson then shot Brown as he ran away.

An autopsy showed Brown was shot from the front, and multiple conflicting eyewitness accounts have Brown doing everything from charging Officer Wilson to raising his hands in surrender.

The grand jury declined to indict Wilson, leading to days of anger and tumult in Ferguson. McCulloch was criticized for failing to fully prosecute Wilson owing to lifelong ties to the law enforcement community.
