New Poll Shows Joe Biden Beating Trump By 7 Points in 2020

Just a few weeks after Donald Trump said running against Joe Biden in 2020 would be “a dream,” the former vice president beat the current president by 7 points in a new Politico/Morning Consult poll gauging the next presidential race.

44 percent of registered voters who responded to the poll chose Biden over in this hypothetical 2020 match up, while just 37 percent of respondents chose Trump. However, the poll found that Biden was far from the best candidate to run against Trump — which would mark his third time running for president if he did — as a generic Democratic Party candidate faired nine points better than the former vice president among registered Democrats.

As for Trump, just 78 percent of Republicans who responded to the poll — which questioned 1,993 registered voters late last month — said they would back his reelection efforts. The Politico/Morning Consult poll has an error margin of two points.

“I dream about Biden. That’s a dream,” Trump said to CBS News last month — referencing a run against Biden. “Look, Joe Biden ran three times. He never got more than 1 percent and President Obama took him out of the garbage heap, and everybody was shocked that he did. I’d love to have it be Biden.”
