New Year, Same Twitter: Trump Jabs ‘Rocket Man’ and Claims Measure of Victory Over North Korea

President Donald Trump had a nice, relaxing vacation. He golfed five days in a row, despite tweeting on Christmas that he would be “back to work” the very next day.
Oh well. Golfers gotta golf. All of that’s over now. It’s a new year, and Trump has put the pedal to the metal, or at least the finger to the smartphone.
The president went on a Twitter tear this morning, starting with a particularly confusing tirade against North Korea and their leader Kim Jong Un, once again referring to him as “rocket man.” Get it? He’s called that because he has nuclear weapons, 60 at our last count.
Trump credits sanctions and the unusually quoted “other” pressures as starting to severely impact North Korea. So much, in fact, that “soldiers are dangerously fleeing to South Korea.”
This, sadly, has been going on for years. Soldiers attempt to flee through the DMZ on foot, swim across the Han or Amnok rivers or attempt escape via a variety of other dangerous means. Many die. Some make it. North Korean military members make up nearly four percent of yearly defections to South Korea, a number which has actually fallen during Trump’s first year in office.
It’s true, however, the two countries may start a dialogue ahead of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. These talks may occur on January 9. Fox & Friends did several segments on the forthcoming talks this morning. Perhaps Trump got the information from his favorite news program, perhaps not — we shall see!
In other “Trump on Twitter” news, he seemed to take credit for a safe year in commercial aviation.
The president also gave a much needed shout-out to Fox & Friends for interviewing National Border Patrol Council Brandon Judd over the weekend.
It’s gonna be a long year, isn’t it?
