Not Dead Yet: #NeverTrump Delegates May Force a Rules Vote at Convention

Donald TrumpIt may seem like #NeverTrump efforts died when the RNC Rules Committee quashed various anti-Trump attempts (i.e. letting delegates vote their conscience), but that may have been just a flesh wound.

See, despite those earlier decisions by the rules committee, #NeverTrump-ers are going around to collect enough signatures for a full convention vote on the rules. And according to a report from Politico, they might actually have it:

To force that vote, the faction would need signatures from the majority of delegates from 7 states or territories. According to documents provided to POLITICO, they have a majority of signatures from 9: Colorado, Washington state, Utah, Minnesota, Wyoming, Maine, Iowa, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

And yes, they want to again push for things like the conscience clause so delegates are not compelled to vote for someone they find appalling.

Former Republican Senator Gordon Humphrey presented the signatures to an RNC official to get the attention of the convention secretary:

Humphrey has previously called Trump a “sick sociopath.”

Now, there’s just one teensy tiny little problem with his efforts today. This needs to go directly to the convention secretary, and they can’t seem to find her. Apparently that’s because they’re deliberately trying to avoid it:
