Now Egypt Is Trolling the U.S. over Ferguson
Not content with letting Ayatollah Khamenei have all the fun trolling the U.S. over Ferguson, Egyptian officials urged its American allies to show restraint in response to protests that have broken out in the wake of the shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.
The difference between Iran and Egypt, of course, is that Egypt is an American ally and dependent upon $1.5 billion in U.S. aid — funds that have been in question since last summer’s ousting of former President Mohamed Morsi and the subsequent crackdown on hundreds of members of the Muslim Brotherhood, to say nothing of criminalization of the press.
Even Egypt’s language appears to be intentional, invoking previous U.S. remonstrances to Egypt over its Tahrir Square demonstrations:
