NYPD Shoot Man Who Allegedly Tried to Attack Officer with Hammer Near Penn Station
New York City police officers reportedly shot a 30-year-old man around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning when he allegedly tried to attack a female officer with a hammer near Penn Station.
According to the New York Post, the suspect, David Baril, has been randomly targeting women with his weapon of choice:
Two officers recognized the suspect from pictures released by the NYPD and stopped to question him, law enforcement sources said.
A short time later, the man pulled out his hammer and took a swing at Officer Lauren O’Rouke with the claw end of the tool, sources said.
Several outlets initially reported Baril as having died from his wounds, but NBC News clarified that “authorities later said he was hospitalized in extremely critical condition.”
