Obama Hits Back at Trump: ‘I Was Pretty Confident About Where I Was Born’

As Donald Trump gave a statement that addressed his history of “birtherism,” President Obama dismissed the real estate mogul on Friday in response to a question from ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

After years of suggesting otherwise, Trump has finally personally conceded that Obama is a natural born American citizen. As for the President, he told reporters today that he’s frankly amazed the issue remains relevant at all.

“I have no reaction, and I’m shocked a question like that would come up at a time when we’ve got so many things to do,” Obama said. “I’m not that shocked, actually. It’s fairly typical.”

Obama concluded the conference by stating “I was pretty confident about where I was born.”

Before today’s statement, Trump’s campaign tried distancing itself from the nominee’s “birther” past while trying to pin the worst of it on Hillary Clinton. It has been established that no one in Clinton’s immediate orbit perpetuated the rumors when they emerged back in 2008, let alone started them, whereas Trump has embraced the idea for years.

As his D.C. event came to an end today, Trump stated that Clinton “started” the rumor, and he “finished” it. “President Barack Obama was born in the United States. Period,” Trump said.
