Papa John’s Thanks Customers for Their Outrage: Your Honesty is Making Us Better
— Papa John’s Pizza (@PapaJohns) August 24, 2018
After Papa John’s founder John Schnatter resigned in the wake of the revelation he dropped the n-word during a marketing meeting, the pizza chain has had a problem.
People have been slamming the chain for being racist.
So, Papa John’s is fighting back with an ad highlighting all the messages that they have been getting.
“Racism is disgusting and I won’t support it,” one person wrote.
“Blaming players for poor sales with dog whistle racism was a hack move,” another said.
A message from the company also appears between all the angry notes.
“You expected better from Papa John’s. So did we,” it reads. “Thank you for your honesty… It is making us better.”
Sales at Papa John’s have suffered since Schnatter’s dropping of a racist slur became public.
The chain responded by distancing themselves from their founder.
Meanwhile, Schnatter has not left the pizza chain quietly.
Instead, he has launched his own campaign to prove that he is still Papa John.
“I built Papa John’s from the ground up and remain its largest shareholder. I love my Company, its employees, franchisees and customers,” his website reads. “The Board wants to silence me. So this is my website and my way to talk to you.”
