Paul Ryan Makes Speaker Bid Official in Letter to Colleagues: ‘I Am Ready and Eager’
Paul Ryan sent a letter to colleagues tonight officially announcing his bid to become Speaker of the House.
Ryan emphasizes in the letter what important times these are for America and says the House is adding to the nation’s problems, not solving them.
“But now,” he says, “we have an opportunity to turn the page, to start with a clean slate, and to rebuild what has been lost.”
Ryan is very “excited for this moment” and he admits that while he didn’t think he would take the leadership role, “I believe we are ready to move forward as a one, united team. And I am ready and eager to be our speaker.”
Ryan has secured endorsements from critical House Republican groups over the past day. The House Freedom Caucus is supporting, but did not officially endorse, Ryan for Speaker.
