PETA Wants to Acquire Jeffrey Dahmer’s Childhood Home

PETA’s done some odd stunts before, but this one might take the (vegan) cake. There’s a house on the market that’s most famous for being Jeffrey Dahmer‘s childhood home (and the site of Dahmer’s first murder), and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are hoping to acquire it. Why, you ask? Because they want to turn it into a vegan restaurant.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk sent a letter to the realty agent putting the house up for sale, saying they want to purchase the house to make a statement about animal violence, basically comparing the treatment of animals to the way Dahmer treated his victims.

“We are always looking for ways to draw attention to the violence inherent in the production of meat, eggs, and milk — which involve processes that would shock all but the most hard-hearted person… Dahmer’s old house gives us a way to evoke sympathy for these victims and to suggest that a life-affirming diet can change everything.”

PETA posted about its plan on its blog last Friday, making the same connection between animal cruelty and Dahmer’s own, asking, “What better way to transform this building’s sordid past than by creating a cruelty-free vegan dining spot in that will inspire visitors to choose nonviolent meals and practice compassion with every bite they take?”

The working name for the restaurant is “Eat for Life––Home Cooking.”
