Philly Ambush Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 5 Injured (Including 2 Cops)
A Philadelphia police officer was ambushed and shot multiple times by a gunman last night, ending with seven people shot––two of them fatally (including the gunman).
According to 6abc, Sgt. Sylvia Young was in her patrol car when the suspect ran up and shot her eight times. She luckily survived thanks to her bulletproof vest.
Other officers chased the suspect on foot, and he continued firing shots. He shot at a security guard, used a woman as a human shield only to then shoot her, and he shot University of Pennsylvania officer Eddie Miller.
At one point the gunman shot inside a vehicle, seriously wounding two people inside. They were brought to the hospital and one of them has died.
The Philly police revealed today that the gunman had a note on him expressly declaring hatred for police officers:
“This is a completely bizarre situation,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
Ross told reporters Saturday that police found what he called a “rambling” note at the scene that officers believe was written by the still-unidentified gunman expressing hatred toward police and naming a probation officer.
One police official tweeted that the suspect was “driven by hatred”:
1 @PhillyPolice Sgt, 1 Penn Officer, 4 innocent civilians shot by an individual driven by hatred. #senseless
