Piers Morgan Rips ‘Idiot’ Rep Opposed To Background Checks: ‘Everything That’s Wrong With America’

Wolf Blitzer had a heated encounter with GOP Texas Rep. Steve Toth on Wednesday afternoon over the issue of universal background checks for gun sales. Fellow CNN host Piers Morgan was watching — and Toth’s lack of support for the measure drew a sharp reaction.

“Texas Republican congressman Steve Toth on CNN right now is everything that’s wrong with America re guns. A stupid, dangerous man,” Morgan tweeted.

Morgan further went on to deem Toth a “clown,” noting that “idiot” Toth does not speak for the other fine folks in Texas, which is a “great state.”

During the interview in question, Blitzer grilled Toth about how a “crazy guy” could go to a gun show and easily purchase a gun. “Right now, you can be on the no fly list, you’re not allowed to board a plane, but you can go to a gun show and buy a gun. Is there a contradiction there?” Blitzer asked.

“Wolf, show me one time one of these criminals has gone to a gun show and committed a crime,” Toth replied.
