Pittsburgh Buses To Remove Slogans With Unintentional Reverse Racist Messages
Since the year 2003, “Ziggin Zaggin” was just one of several slogans used as part of a larger campaign being promoted on Pittsburgh’s bus decal. The Port Authority of Allegheny County decided to remove the promos on Wednesday, after receiving complaints that, when you read the slogan backwards, it’s a racial slur.
Tracey Jennings was driving one of the nine decalled buses on Tuesday, and realized that the slogan held a whole new meaning in her rearview mirror. Port Authority has responded to complaints from her and others, saying the slogans will be removed in the next two weeks with new advertisements placed over any remaining imprints.
“Port Authority certainly did not intend for this message to offend anyone,” agency spokesman Jim Ritchie said to TRIB Live. “We have decided to remove the message from our vehicles. We apologize to anyone who may have been offended.”
