Planned Parenthood Shooter Identified by Police as Robert Dear

Colorado Springs police have now identified the man who shot multiple individuals in a Planned Parenthood clinic as Robert Lewis Dear.

Dear opened fire in the clinic yesterday afternoon, leaving three dead––including an officer––and nine wounded.

After an hours-long standoff, Dear emerged from the building and surrendered to police. He was promptly taken into custody.

Officials are still looking through the suspicious items he brought with him and released his mugshot this morning:

UPDATE –– 4:51 pm EST: More details have come out over the course of the day about Dear. According to The Washington Post, he was a strange person who lived in a little shack. Dear was previously arrested for being a “peeping Tom” and for cruelty to animals, as well as having several physical altercations with people over the years.

One neighbor said, “He complained about everything. He said he worked with the government, and everybody was out to get him, and he knew the secrets of the U.S.A.”

Another described him as “the kind of person you had to watch out for” with “a weird look in his eye.”

Dear moved to Colorado last year, reportedly with a woman identified as Stephanie Michelle Bragg.
