Playboy Will No Longer Run Nude Photos Because ‘It’s Just Passé’ Now

playboy bunniesGet out your best “reading it for the articles” jokes, because Playboy is getting ready to officially stop running nude photos.

Yes, The New York Times reports tonight that after a top editor convinced Hugh Hefner it was a good idea, Playboy decided to get rid of nude photos entirely.

Chief executive Scott Flanders explained, “You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture.”

And, apparently, Playboy doesn’t want to just get rid of the nudies, it wants to––and I feel I must emphasize this is a direct quote from the Times report here––”compete with start-ups like Vice.” Flanders said, “The difference between us and Vice is that we’re going after the guy with a job.”

What the hell world are we living in now.

It’s worth pointing out, though, that they had already done away with nudes online last year and they saw positive results:

In August of last year, its website dispensed with nudity. As a result, Playboy executives said, the average age of its reader dropped from 47 to just over 30, and its web traffic jumped to about 16 million from about four million unique users per month.

So now where are people going to find pictures of nude women aside from the entirety of the internet?
