Rush Limbaugh: NY-9 Proves That You Should Make Every Election About Barack Obama

The big question today seems to be just how much the GOP win in New York’s Ninth District can be used to gauge national feelings heading into a presidential election year. Rush Limbaugh certainly thinks so and, more specifically, argued that all of the GOP 2012 contenders should learn from how New York’s Bob Turner ran, making their campaign all about Barack Obama.

Limbaugh explained that the common wisdom from campaign managers after the Republican primaries would be to tell the GOP candidate to not get negative with Obama and not appear too conservative as it would scare off independents. However, this election, in Limbaugh’s opinion, proved that notion false.

“[Turner] opposes amnesty for illegal aliens and he made no secret of this. Bob Turner’s a Catholic, he’s pro-life, and he personally supports the Defense of Marriage Act. He also opposes Obamacare. And all of this was essentially shouted by Turner in his campaign. The people of New York Nine had not question what they were doing. There was no doubt.”

Anyone who’s watched the Republican debates can tell you that there’s been no shortage of attacks on Obama and conservative credentials sharing. However, that is the primaries. It will be interesting to see if that goes down a bit in the general election or, as Limbaugh is championing, the GOP candidate stays keeps the volume up and the politics right.
