Dr. Jane Sanders, wife of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, sounded off today on how one prominent Hillary Clinton supporter recently played the gender card.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said at a Clinton rally that young women should be getting behind the Democratic frontrunner, saying, “Hillary Clinton will always be there for you. And just remember, there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.”
It’s worth noting here that in the New Hampshire primary yesterday, a majority of women voted for Sanders, and over two-thirds of women under 45 voted for him.
On HuffPost Live today, Jane Sanders said Albright’s comments were “unfortunate and disturbing”:
“I think women today are a little bit more intelligent [than to] say, ‘Okay, all I care about is gender.’ By that case, then, if Bernie won the Democratic nomination and Carly Fiorina won the Republican nomination, we should be supporting Carly Fiorina.”
She didn’t criticize Gloria Steinem for saying young women are flocking to Sanders because that’s where the boys are, accepting Steinem at her word that it was a mistake.
