According to reports, Soto told her first-grade students to hide in closets and cabinets as soon as she heard the gunfire. When the shooter approached her classroom, she told him her class had gone to the gym and stepped in front of his bullets to protect the children. Soto was one of 27 who lost their lives Friday.
Soto’s story came out Saturday and immediately became a viral sensation on Facebook. Her name also quickly turned into a trending topic on Twitter, with many commending her bravery, courage and sacrifice.
