Sarah Silverman: Solve the Wage Gap by Getting a Sex Change

 

Celebrities can sometimes help draw attention to big issues (with, er, mixed results). Today comedienne Sarah Silverman put out a video about the gender wage gap, which focused on Silverman trying to get a sex change.

Why? Because, she argued, it’s easier and more lucrative in the long term to just become a man.

The question of whether such a pay gap exists has been the source of much debate. President Obama publicly pushed for pay equality, even though his own White House still pays, on average, men more than women.

But let’s get back to the comedy. Silverman plays things straight (mostly) for the first chunk of the video, sharing statistics about women in the workforce, before announcing, “I’m becoming a dude.” She also used the opportunity to push a crowdfunding campaign to “close the gap.”
