Spicer Uses First White House Presser to Blast Media Over ‘Shameful’ Reports on Crowd Sizes
Sean Spicer held his first press conference today as the new White House press secretary, though it wasn’t so much of a news conference as it was a full-scale tear against the media.
Spicer started things off by blasting the recent reports about how President Trump removed a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. from the Oval Office. The story has been corrected, and Spicer blasted those who circulated the reports as “reckless and irresponsible.”
Not a moment afterwards, Spicer turned his ire towards reporters who noted that Trump didn’t have a particularly large crowd for his inauguration compared to past presidents. Spicer said that these media figures were working to “minimize the enormous support” that got Trump elected, and that it was “shameful and wrong” to put out “inaccurate” numbers and pictures about the crowds.
“This was the largest audience to witness an inauguration. Period!” Spicer said.
Spicer also used his opening remarks to talk about Trump’s speech today with the CIA, where Trump took his own shots at the media. Spicer did not take any questions, and he walked away from reporters after finishing his tangent.
Earlier today, the White House placed photos from the inauguration inside of the Briefing Room, which might have been an effort to boost the appearance of Trump’s crowd.
