Officials in Palm Beach, Florida warned the public on Monday about a sinkhole that formed near President Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago estate.
The Washington Post spotlighted the news and reaction on social media in a Monday report. The city government of the town issued a statement about the sinkhole: “A 4′ x 4′ sinkhole has formed on Southern Boulevard directly in front of Mar-a-Lago. It appears to be in the vicinity of the newly installed water main. West Palm Beach Utilities distribution crews have secured the area and will most likely need to do some exploratory excavation today. One lane is closed but the road remains open. Please pay attention to signs.”

Almost immediately, the jokes started pouring in (though not into the new void). CBS News referenced one of the President’s slogans in the lead sentence of their write-up on the story: “President Trump has been promising to ‘drain the swamp’ in Washington since his campaign, but it now appears that he has a draining issue of his own at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.”
Multiple Twitter users replied to the Palm Beach city government’s Twitter account’s post about the sinkhole with cracks of their own.
@townpalmbeach Is this an actual sinkhole or a metaphorical one?

@townpalmbeach @Fahrenthold But it is a beautiful sinkhole. The best sink hole in history. A model sinkhole for all future sinkholes.
