So J.R. Smith Was Apparently Suspended For Throwing a Bowl of Soup at His Coach

Prior to last night’s game with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Cleveland Cavaliers suddenly suspended shooting guard J.R. Smith for one game for detrimental conduct. It appears we now know exactly how detrimental that conduct was.

ESPN’s Dave McMenanin and Brian Windhorst reported earlier today that Smith was given the suspension because he had tossed a bowl of soup at assistant coach Damon Jones.

Let me repeat that — Smith was suspended for THROWING A BOWL OF SOUP AT ONE OF THE CAVS’ COACHES!

Not sure if that would have been anyone’s guess as to why the guard was banned for a game. But here we are.

It appears that the Cavs are being tight-lipped about the whole affair, with head coach Tyronne Lue not willing to go into the details of the suspension while noting that he did have “a little discussion” with Smith today.

So I guess it will remain a mystery what type of soup Smith tossed at Jones. We may never know if it was chicken noodle, tomato or cream of mushroom.

As you’d imagine, after the story hit, folks on Twitter had something to say:
