Sri Lankan President Wants Enrique Iglesias Concert Promoters Whipped With Stingray Tails

PicMonkey Collage - IglesiasDuring a concert tour for his album Love and Sex, Latin pop star Enrique Iglesias might have gotten a bit too much love while performing in Sri Lanka. In fact, President Maithripala Sirisena felt there was so much love that now he is proposing that the concert organizers be subjected to a medieval form of punishment for the “uncivilized” behavior of the audience.

During Iglesias’ performance of the song “Bailando,” several women were caught on camera throwing their bras at him, and later tried rushing the stage to get a kiss. Sirisena, however, felt that such “indecent concerts should never receive authorization again in Sri Lanka,” and that the women’s egregious use of undergarments merits an ancient penalty.

“I don’t advocate that these uncivilized women who removed their brassieres should be beaten with poisonous stingray tails, but those who organized such an event should be,” Sirisena said.

While the expression is a modern figure of speech to refer to severe punishment, Billboard reported that Sirisena was taking action against “indecent concerts,” as well as the high cost of the show’s tickets. Live Events, the company that produced the show, did not offer a direct response, but apologized for the “negative experience” and said that security had “alarmingly failed.”

Iglesias himself has not yet addressed the controversial bra-throwing, but offered the audience thanks with a clip on his Instagram account:
