Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and his wife, Louise Linton, made headlines yesterday when they posed for a ridiculous series of pictures with a giant sheet of dollar bills.
This perhaps would not have been newsworthy if it was just any member of President Donald Trump’s cabinet, but Mcunchin and Linton have a long history of flaunting their wealth, with Linton courting controversy earlier this year after posting a picture to Instagram of her exiting a government plane, all the while boasting about all of the expensive brands she wears.
Speaking of expensive brands, those gloves she was wearing as she lorded over the giant sheet of cash like a well-dressed Scrooge McDuck? They cost a whopping $635.
CNN reporter Kate Bennett did the heavy lifting on this, finding the gaudy gloves online. No, they are not lined with diamonds, gold or even anti-anxiety medication. They are just gloves. Really expensive gloves that cost half of what an average American pays on rent per month.
As a reminder, here is part of what Linton wrote to an Instagram follower when they complained that she was bragging about her wealth while on the government dole.
“Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours,” she wrote.
“You’re adorably out of touch. Thanks for the passive aggressive nasty comment.”
Just a pair of regular, everyday citizens. Nothing to see here folks.
