White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will host a presser at 3:00 PM EST today to cover all the latest news surrounding the Trump administration.
Today’s focus is on tax reform, as Republicans passed their big Tax Reform bill through the House Thursday afternoon. That came after President Donald Trump went to the Capitol Building earlier to rally his fellow Republicans on passing the bill. The Tax Cuts and Job Acts bill still has to go through the Senate where Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, John McCain of Arizona, Bob Corker of Tennessee, Susan Collins of Maine, and Rand Paul of Kentucky could all stop it from reaching Trump’s desk — a conundrum Sanders will certainly be grilled on.
Additionally, as this is the first press briefing since Trump’s return from Asia, foreign policy questions — particularly about Russian President Vladimir Putin and the North Korean nuclear crisis — are sure to pop-up. While in Vietnam, the president seemingly admitted to believing the Kremlin’s claim that they did not tamper in the 2016 presidential election over US intelligence agencies, which caused another media stir in Trump’s on-going Russia scandal.
Speaking of Russia — White House Communications Director Hope Hicks is expected to appear in front of special counsel Robert Mueller’s to interview her regarding the investigation. As the ultimate Trump insider — who has had a professional relationship with the president for years — her interview will be vital to Mueller’s probe and raises more questions on the scope of the scandal.
All that comes as Democratic Senator Al Franken is accused of sexual assault by radio host Leeann Tweeden. The official White House response to those allegations is sure to be a doozy.
