Texas Hospice Owner Allegedly Ordered Nurses to Murder Patients

A hospice owner in Texas is under the FBI’s scrutiny for allegedly ordering his employees to hasten the death of his patients in order to make more money.

KXAS reported that federal agents are requesting a search warrant to look into the affairs of Brad Harris, an accountant who founded Novus Health Care Services, Inc. in Frisco. The affidavit alleges that Harris ordered nurses to increase their dosages of morphine and other palliative medications in order to trigger overdoses in their charges.

“You need to make this patient go bye-bye,” Harris texted one his nurses. He was also alleged to have made other disturbing comments like “if this f*ck would just die.”

The affidavit says there were at least four times where Harris instructed nurses to administer overdoses, in one instance saying the dosage should be jumped to “four times the maximum allowed.” One nurse refused to carry out the order and resigned, but the outcomes of the three other incidents are not yet known.

“As part of this scheme, Harris, who has no medical training or licenses, would direct his employed nurses to overdose hospice patients with palliative medications such as morphine to hasten death, and thereby minimize Novus’ [exposure] under the cap,” the affidavit says.
