The New Republic Cancels Upcoming Issue After Staff Exodus

The fallout from the mass staff exodus at The New Republic continues, with the magazine’s chief executive saying in a memo to staff today that they’re canceling the upcoming issue due to it being “unfinished.”

In the memo, obtained by Politico, Guy Vidra explains that “going forward with the issue would run the risk of falling short of this institution’s renowned high standards.”

The next print issue of TNR will hit newsstands on February 2nd, and instead of releasing the magazine in print 20 times a year, they’re reducing it down to 10 times a year. (Current one-year subscribers will then get the next two years of print issues.)

Staffers, editors, and contributing editors jumped ship over differences with the direction Chris Hughes and Vidra were taking, the final straw being the departures of both Franklin Foer and Leon Wieseltier.
