The Problem with NYPD’s Back-Turning Protest, in Two Tabloid Covers
Among the several criticisms of an indeterminate number of NYPD officers who reportedly turned their backs on Gotham Mayor Bill de Blasio during officer Rafael Ramos’ funeral yesterday was the accusation that the protest hijacked an event meant to honor the slain officer for the sake of political theatrics.
For proof of the diversionary success of this tactic look no further than the New York Post, which, unlike its tabloid rival, forget why everyone was there:

NYDN’s cover was even a wraparound, with a quote from NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton honoring the officer on the back. The Post did manage to fit Ramos’ name in, at the bottom, in tiny print.
