This Storm Victim’s Emotional Reconnection With His Father Will Warm Your Heart

It hasn’t been easy locating good news in southern Texas during the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. But CNN managed to find some, and in fact, created some — by helping a storm victim reconnect with his father on the phone.

During the 9:00 a.m. ET hour of CNN Newsroom, a live report from the storm-ravaged to of Rockport, TX featured Aaron Mitchell — who lost his trailer in the storm. Mitchell said he couldn’t get a cellular signal, and hadn’t been able to reach his parents to let them know his whereabouts.

“If my mom and dad is watching, I’m okay,” Mitchell said.

Reporter Nick Valencia promised to let Mitchell use the CNN crew’s satellite phone to make contact. Moments later, Newsroom came back to the scene to air the heart wrenching phone call.

“Are you okay?” Mitchell said to his father through tears. “I’ll jump on [a bus]. Yeah. I’m in Rockport.”

He added, “Dad, I love you.”
