Trump Again Laughably Claims Mexico is Paying For Wall Via New NAFTA Deal

President Donald Trump took to Twitter this morning to again push the laughable, baseless claim that the new NAFTA trade deal, USMCA, will “indirectly” pay for his proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall.

“Mexico is paying (indirectly) for the Wall through the new USMCA, the replacement for NAFTA! Far more money coming to the U.S.,” he wrote. “Because of the tremendous dangers at the Border, including large scale criminal and drug inflow, the United States Military will build the Wall!”

Last week, the president made a similar untrue claim on Twitter, saying the money saved from the “new deal with Mexico” will go to wall funding.

Trump, who has provided zero evidence backing up the supposed USMCA-to-wall funding scheme, made the claims amid his threats to shutdown the government to fight Democrats over the lack of money for his wall.

“The president has been clear that the USMCA deal would provide additional revenue through that deal that would show that Mexico has paid for the wall,” said White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders when asked about Trump’s NAFTA claims.
