Trump Brags About Endorsement From Evangelical Leader… Who Actually Endorsed Cruz
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump bragged about receiving an endorsement from evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats Tuesday, even though Vander Plaats actually endorsed his rival Ted Cruz.
“We’ve had so many great endorsements, with Governor [Chris Christie] and with Sarah Palin and with everybody. Vander Plaats, our friend Bob Vander Plaats from Liberty University,” Trump said in Rome, New York (Jerry Falwell Jr. is the Liberty University president who actually endorsed Trump).
Vander Plaats isn’t just some minor endorser; he serves as the National Co-Chair of Cruz’s presidential campaign and frequently does cable hits as a Cruz surrogate.
Trump actually went on a tweetstorm in January after Vander Plaats endorsed Cruz ahead of the Iowa primary, with Vander Plaats turning the proverbial cheek in response.
Why doesn’t phony @bobvanderplaats tell his followers all the times he asked for him and his family to stay at my hotels-didn’t like paying

.@bobvanderplaats begged me to do an event while asking organizers for $100,000 for himself—a bad guy!

@realDonaldTrump Still consider you a friend and you still can’t have my endorsement. My friendship isn’t phony.
