Donald Trump Jr. defended his joke about the media “warming up the gas chamber” and said it was not anti-Semitic.
During a radio interview Wednesday Trump Jr. had criticized the media coverage of Clinton and his father, which he claimed had been uneven. The media “let her slide on every indiscrepancy, on every lie, on every DNC game trying to get Bernie Sanders out of this thing. If Republicans were doing that, they’d be warming up the gas chamber right now,” he said.
The Anti-Defamation League responded to Trump’s Holocaust joke in a tweet that read: “Trivialization of the Holocaust and gas chambers is NEVER okay.”
They wrote in another: “We hope you understand the sensitivity and hurt of making Holocaust jokes. We hope you retract.”
Earlier in the campaign Trump frequently retweeted neo-Nazi and white supremacists from his personal Twitter account. Last week Trump Jr. tweeted out an image of himself, his father, and various Trump supporters alongside Pepe the Frog, a symbol for the alt-right movement, which has embraced Trump’s campaign and is closely linked to white nationalism.
