Trump Organization Reportedly Not Tracking Foreign Donations

Donald Trump Saudi Arabia

The Trump Organization has not been tracking donations and income generated by foreign entities, according to a new report from MSNBC. The revelation poses significant implications given the president’s campaign promise to donate foreign profits to the treasure if elected.

“He is going to voluntarily donate all profits from foreign government payments made to his hotels to the U.S. Treasury,” Trump lawyer, Sheri Dillon said in January, Time reported. “This way it is the American people who profit.”

According to a company pamphlet, the Trump Organization does not “attempt to identify individual travelers who have not specifically identified themselves as being a representative of a foreign government entity,” MSNBC reported. “To attempt to individually track and distinctly attribute certain business-related costs as specifically identifiable to a particular customer group is not practical.”

So, so much for that promise.

And while Dillon dismissed suggestions that foreign donations to Trump  violated the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, a bevy of legal experts have not been as certain. There is presently an open federal lawsuit against Trump for violating the clause.
