Trump Responds to Charlottesville Violence: ‘Lets Come Together As One!’

Following the breakout of violent clashes at a white nationalist rally in Virginia today, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to offer up a condemnation of the violence.

The tweet comes a couple of hours after clashes first started breaking out in Charlottesville ahead of the since-canceled ‘Unite the Right’ rally. The First Lady went to Twitter about 40 minutes ahead of her husband to send out her own statement:

Prior to his tweet, there had been grumblings over the lack of response by the president.

The violence in Charlottesville comes a day after hundreds of white nationalists took part in a torch-lit march at the University of Virginia, chanting “white lives matter” and “blood and soil.”

UPDATE 2:05 PM ET: The president added another tweet, stating he was busy with meetings but that Charlottesville was “sad!”
