Trump Tells Anchors Ahead of SOTU: ‘I Want to See Our Country United’

Ahead of tonight’s State of the Union address, President Donald Trump attended a luncheon with several news anchors, in which he spoke of his desire to end this country’s political divisiveness.

Trump, in what may be considered a bizarre turn of phrase, spoke longingly of his desire for unity, only without the need for a “major event,” ostensibly referring to a disaster akin to 9/11.

“I want to see our country united. It was divided, not just under President Obama, or President Bush. I remember the impeachment of President Clinton. Tremendous divisiveness, not just over the past year,” he said.

“If I could unite this country, I would consider it a tremendous success. I would love to be able to bring our country back in a great form of unity without a major event, very tough to do. I would like to do it without a major event because that major event is usually a bad thing.”

In other news, Trump has reportedly told aides he wants the now-infamous Devin Nunes memo to be released, only he wants to wait until after tonight’s address, perhaps fearing it would be bad optics to call attention to the partisan memo on a night he is calling for unity.
