Trump Tweets After ‘Excellent’ Schumer Meeting on Shutdown: ‘Four Week Extension Would Be Best’

With a government shutdown looming over D.C., both the Democrats and the Republicans are racing against time to reach an agreement.
President Donald Trump gave a quick look into what is taking place in those closed door meetings via twitter. In the tweet he said that he and Chuck Schumer had an “excellent preliminary meeting:”
Excellent preliminary meeting in Oval with @SenSchumer – working on solutions for Security and our great Military together with @SenateMajLdr McConnell and @SpeakerRyan. Making progress – four week extension would be best!

In order to prevent a shutdown, Congress needs to pass a budget resolution by the end of Friday to fund the government. But the political parties can’t come to agreement on the bill, arguing especially over whether to include immigration measures, like a fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and whether to pass a short-term fix or come to a lasting budget agreement.
