Tulsa Police Chief Defends Fundraiser for Darren Wilson: We Just Want Justice

A Tulsa police station set up a bucket asking for donations to help Darren Wilson, the officer who fatally shot Michael Brown. Here’s a picture of the small fundraiser, as posted by Tulsa World:

Well, that didn’t exactly go over well. Tulsa police chief Chuck Jordan took it down because it violated city policy. However, in subsequent comments, he defended the intention behind the fundraiser.

He explained officers just want to “seek justice” for Wilson and don’t want his character besmirched before all the facts come out. Jordan said this wasn’t about “race, guilt or innocence — it is about the rule of law.”

The fundraiser was meant to help Wilson’s legal fund. Wilson has not been formally charged yet.
