Twitter Flips Out Over Trump’s Tweet Warning Missile Strike in Syria: ‘This is Just Freaking Nuts’

Online political observers are flipping out again after President Trump threatened Russia to stand aside while he hits Syria with an airstrike.
Trump got on the presidential Twitter machine today in order to declare that Russia should “get ready,” because he intends to launch missiles against Bashar al-Assad in retaliation for the recent chemical attack in Damascus.
Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 11, 2018
Since Trump more-or-less signified the beginning of a potential conflict with incalculable significance for world politics, Twitter users reacted to his statement accordingly:

A nice, chilling reminder of how dangerous and volatile confrontation with Russia can be. This is why Obama – smartly – spent 8 years avoiding confrontation with Russia, including in Syria. And why those who have been demanding Trump be more belligerent are dangerous idiots. https://t.co/4JR3hXn8Ht

It’s fair for the nation to question whether this is the behavior of a person capable of responsibly making and executing decisions of war. https://t.co/QAPQ5pu6Q1

This is just freaking nuts. Take an immensely taut military situation between two nuclear powers, with all kinds of risk for escalation, and then amplify it by personal taunting? https://t.co/IA9FCow3FK

It’s always a good idea to talk casually about a World War III. At least you know there won’t be a World War IV. https://t.co/2qkY7j6puc

However, a lot of the Twitterverse is wondering why Trump is suddenly telegraphing his strategy after all those times he denounced the very notion of publicly announcing the military’s movements.

This is typically irresponsible, but who here remembers how incensed he was about Obama discussing military operations before they happened? https://t.co/Pdc81SH30s

Remember when Trump said: “I don’t want to telegraph what I’m doing”?! But now Trump is telling his BFF/campaign manager Vladimir Putin exactly what he is going to do as if he was tipping Putin off. All that is missing are missile coordinates and launch times. https://t.co/VMXCsUUppG

President – who says he never telegraphs military plans ahead of time – does just that with his threat to attack Syria and his taunting of Putin https://t.co/HdatBDGXzk

So about that ‘not telegraphing plans’ thing… https://t.co/MTz2LyMW3d

President Trump on April 5, 2017 while considering U.S. response to a chemical attack in Syria:
“One of the things I think you’ve noticed about me is militarily I don’t like to say where I’m going and what I’m doing… I’m certainly not going to be telling you.” https://t.co/qVNAKmEPtQ
