U.S. Intel: Roughly a Dozen Americans Are Fighting for ISIS

There have been multiple reports of American citizens both sympathetic to and fighting for the terrorist group ISIS (or ISIL or IS, depending on who you ask). And now, according to The New York Times, U.S. intelligence agencies have identified roughly a dozen American citizens who are currently fighting for ISIS in Syria.

A senior U.S. official said that ISIS is actually very appealing to potential foreign candidates because they can stake a legitimate claim “as the true jihad,” accomplishing quite a lot.

And there’s one interesting little factoid the Times includes in its report: “As a result of the increasing numbers of men, ISIS is now recruiting foreign women as jihadist wives.”

(Sidenote: Jihadist Wives would be the worst reality show ever.)

In recent days, there have been reports about several Americans fighting and dying for ISIS, including Douglas McCain. And rather oddly, a friend of his from the same high school he went to reportedly joined ISIS as well.
