Ukrainian Parliament Descends into All-out Brawl, Again
Democracy was in action Wednesday when a brawl broke out in the Ukrainian parliament over a presidential decree to call up reserve troops.
The plan to send additional military forces into eastern Ukraine — where separatists have been attacking Ukrainian fighter jets and allegedly brought down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 last week — was narrowly approved.
Following the vote, a member of ousted president Viktor Yanukovich’s party declared that the Ukrainian army had been killing people. His microphone was shut off and a member of a rival party attempted to push him from the podium, at which point all hell broke loose.
This is not the first time the Ukrainian Parliament has descended into fisticuffs; they last went at each other in April, and have previously fought each other in 2012 and 2010.
