Early Tuesday morning, we chronicled the Monday Night Football broadcasting debut of sideline reporter Sergio Dipp — who went viral for completely tanking.
Dipp — who was working in his second language Monday as he primarily appears on ESPN Deportes broadcasting in Spanish —was the subject of Internet mockery after his 30-second clip for the ages. But the public reaction clearly got to the 29-year-old broadcaster — who posted a heartfelt video to his Twitter account.
“All I wanted to do was show some respect, making my debut as a minority on American national TV, the biggest stage out there, on the most heartfelt day in this great country made up by immigrants,” Dipp said. “And on [sic] some people’s perspective, it all went wrong.”
Dipp spoke softly and pointedly and was emotional throughout. He closed by expressing his wish for a second opportunity.
“Hopefully I’ll have another chance,” Dipp said. “And be sure I’ll make the most out of it.”
Public sentiment seemed to be on Dipp’s side — based on the small sampling of Tweets replying to the video.
@espn gotta keep this dude on Monday Night Football for the rest of the year, right? Cool human being.
