W.H. Defends Obama Golfing After James Foley Statement: It’s ‘a Good Way For Release’

The White House on Friday defended President Barack Obama‘s decision to go golfing immediately after he delivered a statement on the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

Asked if the White House could “explain” Obama’s decision, deputy press secretary Eric Schultz said he wouldn’t “get into the president’s mindset” but that the activity was good for Obama.

“I will say that, generally, I think that sports and leisure activities are a good way for release and clearing of the mind for a lot of us,” he said.

Obama was criticized, mostly by conservatives, for taking to the golf course just after his statement from his vacation in Martha’s Vineyard on Foley.

Just day’s before Obama’s statement, a YouTube video emerged of Foley being executed by Islamic terrorist group ISIS.
