WaPo‘s Dave Weigel Falls Asleep During Interview With The Hugh Hewitt Show
The Washington Post‘s Dave Weigel appeared to fall asleep during an interview with The Hugh Hewitt Show Thursday morning.
Guest host Mark Davis threw a question to Weigel about something he had retweeted the previous day, but Weigel was audibly snoring. “Dave?” Davis asked after an uncomfortable silence.
“Hmm? Yep?” Weigel suddenly started.
“Hi, did you catch the last question?” Davis tried again.
“I did, yeah,” responded Weigel, although sounding unsure about it.
“No,” responded Davis simply.
Weigel apologized. “I’m in a place where I can’t hear very well,” he explained.
Now we at Mediaite would never speculate about why Weigel fell asleep… but there was this Instagram post last night.

UPDATE (11:04 AM ET): Weigel passed along a statement to Mediaite apologizing to listeners and explaining that he was doing the interview while on the campaign trail in Oregon, a three-hour difference.
I apologize to the show’s producers and listeners — if I didn’t like the Hugh Hewitt show so much I’d have said “Ugh, 4:35 AM interview, no way!” In my head, I was able to wake up for 5 minutes and do the interview before getting another few hours of sleep. I could tell at the moment that I missed a beat.
Also, the picture’s at the restaurant where my friend pioneered the “bone luge.” We did it after dinner. Then I went to my hotel.
