WATCH: Georgia Tech Football Player Decks His Own Teammate With One Vicious Shot
Football teammates getting into fights during practice is not an uncommon occurrence. Training camps, on the college and pro level, are a serious physical and mental grind. The atmosphere is heated, as players push themselves to the limit to impress their coaches in search of a starting spot, or more playing time, or perhaps even a scholarship.
What makes this fight newsworthy — despite the fact that it happened months ago — is the newly released video. which shows a perfectly landed, absolutely vicious blow.
In the video above, via TMZ Sports, Georgia Tech football players Step Durham and Lance Austin are seen mixing it up at the team’s athletic facilities prior to spring practice. Durham shoved Austin and the two circled each other for a few minutes.
And then Durham uncorked a wicked right hook, knocking Austin out cold.
The severity of the blow was such that Durham not only didn’t follow up, he actually approached Austin — who appeared to be unconscious — and helped him to his feet.
In a statement to TMZ, the school said, “Georgia Tech’s football coaching staff became aware of the incident between teammates and friends shortly after it occurred. Discipline was handled internally.”
Durham, a starting cornerback for the Yellow Jackets, did miss one game this season, but it wasn’t the season opener — when punishment for an offseason offense would logically be meted out.
